THE TWELVE SACRED MOONS
A Journey Through the Year’s Full Moons
The Full Moon marks the sacred peak of each lunar cycle—the moment of illumination, culmination, and radiant expression. But just as each phase of the Moon carries a unique energy, each Full Moon of the year is distinct, colored by the season in which it rises, the name it has been given by those who watched the land and sky before us.
These twelve names—Wolf, Snow, Worm, Pink, Flower, Strawberry, Buck, Sturgeon, Harvest, Hunter’s, Beaver, Cold—are not arbitrary labels. They are doorways. Each opens onto a specific quality of energy, a particular kind of magic, a unique invitation to align with the turning of the year.
To work with the Full Moons is to walk a spiral through the seasons. You will meet the Wolf Moon in the deep cold of January, when survival itself feels like an achievement. You will greet the Flower Moon in May’s abundance, when the world is so lush you can barely breathe. You will stand under the Harvest Moon in September, your hands full of what you have grown, and you will give thanks.
And then you will begin again, the next year, at a different point on your own spiral. The Wolf Moon will return, but you will not be the same person who last saw it. The Moon is always the same Moon. You are the one who changes.
This guide offers a complete resource for each of the twelve Full Moons. For each, you will find:
- The Energy and Intentions – What this Moon asks of you and offers you
- Three Affirmations – Words to carry with you through the phase
- Three Simple Rituals – Practical steps to honor the Moon’s energy
- A Meditation Practice – Guided inner work for the Full Moon
- A Journal Prompt – Questions to deepen your reflection
- Correspondences – Crystals, herbs, colors, and offerings that align with this Moon
- Gateway Connection – Which of the 22 stages this Full Moon most closely mirrors
There is no requirement to work with every Full Moon. Some will call to you more strongly than others. Some years you will perform elaborate rituals; other years you will simply look up at the sky and breathe. Both are enough. Both are the path.
Let the year unfold. Let the Moons rise. Let yourself be shaped by their light.

WORKING WITH THE FULL MOONS: A SIMPLE PRACTICE
If you are new to working with the Full Moons, do not feel overwhelmed by the richness of the material above. The Moon does not require elaborate ritual. She requires only your attention.
- Know which Moon is rising. At the beginning of each month, note which Full Moon is coming. Read its section in this guide. Let its energy become familiar to you.
- Look at the Moon. On the night of the Full Moon, go outside and look at her. That’s all. Simply see her, acknowledge her, let her light touch you.
- Speak one affirmation. Choose one affirmation from the Moon’s section that resonates with you. Speak it aloud, or silently, as you look at the Moon.
- Light a candle. If you can, light a candle in the Moon’s color and let it burn for a few minutes as you sit in silence.
That is enough. That is a practice. Over time, as the years pass and the Moons cycle, you will come to know each one personally. You will remember where you were under the last Wolf Moon, what you felt under the last Strawberry Moon, how you changed between one Harvest Moon and the next.
This is the gift of the Full Moons: they mark time not by numbers, but by experience. Not by dates, but by energies. Not by how many days have passed, but by how many times you have stood in the moonlight and remembered who you are.
